Did you make this website to try and make an alternative to Reddit specifically?

I'm only asking because of the similar layout and just curiosity. Just about anyone knows that Reddit is a really crazy place in a lot of area's, but there isn't much of any alternatives otherwise. So I just wanted to know if you made this website with that in mind or was it purely just a passion project?

😂 love the gif choice

Tbh I started OddsRabbit when I was laid off last year.

I love reddit - my account is 11 years old, and I've spent a few years lurking before that. While I still use it daily, the platform no longer feels the same, something is off about it.

I also have my own thoughts on the issues and opportunities within Reddit itself so that's where my vision for OddsRabbit comes from - it's my vision of what an awesome community platform looks like.

So I guess the answer is a bit of both - I built it as an alternative to Reddit with my vision of how it can be better

  • No political topics - Politically driven discussions and news are everywhere nowadays. I want a platform where that discourse and toxicity are not present, so people can actually focus on their interests and things that make them happy.
  • No AI spam - Self-explanatory. Art, creative use-cases, etc., are fine, but a community platform should be for human discussions.
  • Streamlined moderation - OddsRabbit moderates all general communities for consistency.
  • Community impact/philanthropy - I'm a strong believer in doing good for the world, and I believe everyone at their core also wants to make an impact, help others, etc., which is why OddsRabbit donates a meal for a child on every new user signup. Beyond that, we donate 10% of our ad revenue back to user-nominated charities. This creates a nice feedback loop where users' activities also contribute to something they personally care about - whether it's their local community, the elderly, animals, nature, etc.
  • Better Creator support - We try to support our creators and users however we can. As a creator myself, I understand how hard it is to build an audience and community, which is why OddsRabbit comes with creator tools to help small creators build their audience.
  • Optional ads - Users can turn off ads in their communities if they wish.

But it's definitely also my passion project. I've turned down an opportunity to work on something in AI to focus on and self-fund OddsRabbit, because it's everything I'm passionate about - community, helping others, and niche interests. I'm actually really excited to see where we can take this together.

Sorry for the long post lol, I just got into it.
