This weekend is the Edmonton Fringe Theatre festival


The 44th Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival is currently underway, running from August 14 to 24, 2025, in the heart of Old Strathcona. This year's theme, "A Fringe Full of Stars," celebrates the festival's status as North America's largest and longest-running Fringe Theatre Festival, showcasing over 220 theatre productions across 40 venues. The event features performances by more than 1,600 artists from across Canada and over 9 countries, offering a diverse mix of ticketed shows, free outdoor performances, and the KidsFringe Festival for children.
The festival is held in Old Strathcona and Whyte Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, spanning four square city blocks.It includes a free outdoor Music Series, the KidsFringe Festival for children aged 12 and under, and the pêhonân Series, which centers Indigenous art and storytelling.The festival's theme artwork, created by Yu-Chen (Tseng) Beliveau, pays homage to the Fringe Festival and Edmonton's official city bird, the magpie.As of August 15, 2025, the festival is actively running, with shows, performances, and events taking place throughout the 11-day period.
