Snoopy's Backstory

Became a little obsessed with Snoopy this morning, which is easy to do...for me anyway.

It started with a YouTube notification. Someone left a comment on a snoopy video I posted a few years ago. A scene depicting Charlie Brown and Linus visiting a puppy farm, which I have reposted HERE. Linus pointed out to Charlie Brown that Snoopy had been owned before, but that he was returned.

So that got me wondering more about Snoopy's back story. Likely not news to some of you but, regardless, here's a summary of what I found out...

Snoopy’s Original Owner Was a Girl Named 'Lila'

Lila was the young girl who originally adopted Snoopy from the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm. Unfortunately, her family had moved into a city apartment building that strictly enforced a "No Dogs Allowed" policy. Heartbroken, her family had to return Snoopy to the farm, which is why Linus discovers in the records that Charlie Brown bought a "used dog".

Turns out Lila is most famous for her storyline that featured in the 1972 animated feature film Snoopy, Come Home. When Lila is hospitalized with an illness, she writes to Snoopy asking him to visit. Snoopy embarks on a long journey to see her and faces a tough choice about whether to stay with Lila or return to Charlie Brown — ultimately returning to Charlie Brown when Lila’s new apartment also turns out to prohibit pets.

As for Snoopy, he was born at the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm as part of a litter of eight puppies. They are all musically talented, and in the TV special Snoopy's Reunion, they form a country bluegrass band.

Snoopy's Siblings include:

  1. Spike: Snoopy’s skinny, mustache-wearing brother who lives alone in the desert near Needles, California.
  2. Belle: Snoopy’s sister who lives in Kansas City, Missouri, and is recognizable by her large lace bow.
  3. Marbles: Considered the smartest of the siblings, he wears sneakers and spotted socks and finds Snoopy’s fantasy life (like being a WWI Flying Ace) bizarre.
  4. Olaf: The chubby, goofy brother who won the title of "Ugly Dog" at a dog show. He plays the jug in their band.
  5. Andy: A shaggy-haired brother who often travels with Olaf.
  6. Molly: She plays the dobro/guitar.
  7. Rover: Another brother who plays the lap steel guitar.

He's still got it! Joe Cool for sure!

Not bad for a 76 year old dog eh? And that's in human years :)
