It’s adorable that ZDNET still exists… He waited an hour? Tried to boot an OS looking for ACPI support on a machine that didn’t support ACPI? That’s not the credibility we should look for in tech journos.

I remember when a colleague convinced me to jump from DOS to MAC, and then a decade or so later I installed Linux — around the mid 90s I think. At the time I thought the same as you, but it just didn't work back then as pretty much everything was app based, and few of the ones I needed for work were available on Linux. These days, I imagine the Linux experience would be much more seamless as I pretty much live in the cloud.

Ubuntu desktop with OpenOffice is totally functional. Assuming one knows how to actually use a file based OS. Which seems to be a dying skill. There’s other decent desktop distros, too, but in a world where people think Google is the Internet and don’t understand that Chrome is a choice… I’m not sure where it’s all going.
