On This Day in 1960

30 September 1960: The Flintstones, the first animated sitcom created by Hanna-Barbera, premieres on ABC in the US. It was the very first animated series to air in a prime-time television slot, and was designed primarily to appeal to adult audiences before later capturing a younger demographic. It remained the longest-running network animated series for three decades until The Simpsons surpassed it by launching in December 1989, and is now in season 38, with renewals for seasons 39 and 40 already announced.

Total fan! Watched religiously when it was on in reruns. I'm sure I've seen every episode.

Love the 60s references and how they apply them to the stone-age gadgets. A bird as a phonograph, the foot powered sedan, the brontosaurus crane, etc.
