The Midnight Milk Run

In January 1949, the Midwest was buried under one of the worst winter storms in history, the Blizzard of 1949. For 72 relentless hours, snow and wind locked every road across northwest Iowa. Milk trucks couldn’t move. Dairies were forced to dump thousands of gallons. In Sioux City, families were running out. Babies were being fed powdered milk mixed with melted snow.
