A Problem-Free Life?

"Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake." (Matthew 24:9)

In an age shaped by “quick & easy” expectations, coupled with the popular guaranteed “prosperity” message, it isn’t unusual to hear the claim that a true Christian's life should be "prosperous and problem-free."

Most people don't believe the concept without seeing the evidence. Even Israel, freshly delivered from slavery in Egypt by God’s mighty hand, didn’t magically step into a trouble‑free life.

Scripture teaches the opposite. Jesus said plainly, “You will be hated by all for My name’s sake” (Matthew 10:22). Christ faced constant opposition and dealt with many trials during His brief time on Earth.

Jesus told His disciples, "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you" (John 15:18). Then, after years of hardship, John later reminded believers, “Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you.” (1 John 3:13).

Our difficulties are primarily the result of living in a fallen world. While some are specific trials God allows to shape or discipline us, beyond that, persecution may come from evil sources at war against God’s purposes.

Even though troubles are many, hope is certain. Jesus assured us, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

In Christ, we receive peace of mind and the strength to handle the challenges this life brings, cheerfully rejoicing over each victory. Soon, we will receive the glorious, eternal reward that He has promised: "There shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" (Revelation 21:4).

That, my friend, is something I enjoy spending serious time contemplating. I never tire of imagining having some personal one-on-one time with Jesus, along with many other Bible characters who have influenced my life. How about you?
