How and Why did you discover OddsRabbit?
For me, hours of scrolling Reddit and googling with AI, but found this on Reddit.
The reason was I got shadow banned, probably cause of the VPN I had on. And also I wanted to find an alternative before the UK's social media ban for under 16s cause I don't want to age verify.

I was so sick and tired of the constant fake virtual signaling, the bots, the fucking God complex mods, omg I hate them so much. I didn't even feel like we were in the internet anymore, it just feels like a prison where you can't say whatever goes outside of their hive mind thinking

The man himself /u/jingjunma posted a comment on the Reddit alternatives subreddit so I went to check out the platform to find probably the best Reddit like site I’ve ever found. I think I’m one of the super early users as JunMa sent me a shirt in the mail as a thank you for my activity at the start of the site. Now that I’ve been officially been banned from Reddit as a whole this is my new home!
Other people were suggesting lemmy, but I was like no, lemmy is too much hassle.
This is the best alternative.

I found oddsrabbit by the redditalternatives sub and signup for it. Since the reddit update where all you write is used to train ai models, I'm just lurking the site. I was looking for a place to really interact with people.
The part where every comment and post you make is shared with Google to train AI is definitely not talked about enough lol

Yeah to me is a big deal. A reason alone to just quit the site. It ruined the writing communities, in my opinion.

Like many others, I saw it in the Reddit alternatives subreddit and decided to check it out. So glad I did because this place is so much friendlier. I never posted there but commented in a few places that wouldn't ban on site just for having a link in your bio and mostly just helped others in a certain advice sub when I could. Most of the time though I just read the room and moved on for fear of being down voted into oblivion for having a different opinion than most of the 'not so nice' people. The negativity and bots made it feel more like walking through a mine field than anything resembling fun.
It was mentioned on reddit.com/r/redditalternatives. When I took a look here I immediately felt that this alternative could be a very promising one.

I've been trying to find a good Reddit alternatives for a few years and while Digg.com's reboot showed promise before it collapsed, this seems like it has a very good foundation so far except for the lack of downvotes and all the porn/NSFW content which I think is very unecessary.
The other one that I've had my eyes on is Tribes.app but it's a bit more technical and not nearly as big

Personally the lack of downvotes is one of the major selling points for me.
I want a community where people actually have conversations that don't all turn into posing for likes or dogpiling on someone you disagree with.
I think it forces people to make one of two much better choices when they see something they don't like: 1. Do nothing and move on, because tolerating disagreement is an important skill. Or 2. Comment and actually say what bothers you about the comment/post, which could foster discussion.
Ooo you can turn off the nsfw and won’t miss any posts if you’re not interested in the adult content. The nsfw setting is explicitly for that. I might add a separate nsfw content (text) toggle if that’s what you were looking for by leaving it on.
I've been doing it manually as they crop up in my feed because I was afraid that disabled NSFW could prevent me from seeing additional content around the war or violence or anything else

Almost my 1 year anniversary on oddsrabbit! Found it on reddit a long time ago and signed up
For me I had read so much negativity about reddit I didn't want to go down that road, came across oddsrabbit which people were saying is a great alternative so here I am lol.
A lot of places on Reddit can be that, but you'd have to stay away from certain communities and avoid certain convos.
But this is good place, and as it grows, it rival Reddit.

Why did they ban you?
I got shadowbanned for basically no reason (probably because the VPN I was using), and now waiting for an appeal but their appeals system is not great.

iirc it's often based on your ip to some degree
which if you use public wifi/use it at a work with people who have similar interests could definitely flag it

I found it on the reddit alternatives sub as well. I started looking there because I was also sick of bots, downvotes without saying anything, power-tripping mods, some subs literally banning mentions of things they don't like, and others just dogpiling on people who talk about it.
Funnily, the virtue signaling didn't bother me as much as other things, because I like to give people the benefit of the doubt that they actually believe and live by what they say -- and even if they don't, maybe just the appearance of it will make some other people think.
What bothered me more was how it was almost impossible to talk about values like kindness, human rights, and civic engagement without being *accused* of virtue-signaling or being politically pigeon-holed.
I know, these things are bound to happen sometimes anywhere a large number of people gather. But I do believe that a community can be better if they actively foster community discussion.
If nothing else, I wanted the chance to do that myself with a neurodivergent community, which I had found increasingly unwelcoming on reddit.

Damn, that's crazy.
Reddit has always been toxic, but the amount of bots, AI and absolute dog shite humans, it was becoming more toxic than a DoTA match... Plus, some of the mods are literally insane and take their "job" way too seriously.
Reddit Alternatives sub. I've been in that sub for years...watching, waiting, and trying new things.
I saw OddsRabbit mentioned quite a few times before I finally decided to see what it's about. I've tried SaidIt, Lemmy, and several other alternatives.
They all have the same problem: lack of people leads to lack of content, and the vibe is so hostile, it doesn't encourage you to post.
I've posted more here in the last 12 hours then I have on Reddit in the last 5 years.
Yeah, I saw some Lemmy and other posts, asked AI about them, and was a bit skeptical of them, then I finally found Oddsrabbit and I am very happy.
Same. I don't know what it is about it, but I don't even care about the smallness of this place. Vibes, I guess. I'm am interested in helping it grow.
