Vic Mensa - Down On My Luck - 2014

I think it's refreshing when artists refuse to box themselves in and instead experiment with different genres. Vic Mensa is one of those artists, and with Down On My Luck he created something truly beautiful that defies easy categorization. Brilliant.

The music video is just as intriguing. You could call it a case of "Groundhog Day all over again", only with a far more bitter ending. The message seems to be that even when you finally get everything right after countless mistakes and setbacks, all those trials ultimately leave you with very little to show for it. Well, except for a joint to help you forget it all. Ouch.
