Visiting Japan first time- Onsens

As the title says, I've been recommended by several people to absolutely visit an onsen. Being from the US, it is a strange concept but the idea of being outside in a country like Japan in their hot springs is pretty "once-in-a-lifetime" feeling.
I figured Kyoto might be better suited for this compared to Tokyo- I will report back once I go in april 😅🤣
