Don’t Be a Follower

God’s Morning Word — August 5, 2026

It is hard for Christians not to follow the flow of non-Christians and get caught up in the ways of the world. One of the first things that can happen is that we begin to struggle, because those around us are living unholy lives. Many Christians will admit that bad influences have led them down the wrong paths.

This is likely why God tells us not to follow or imitate the ways of an unbeliever, but instead to follow what is good, knowing that good is of God. Those who do evil do not know Him.

(3 John 1:11 KJV) — Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

God also gives His children a way to avoid the evils of the world by remaining strong-minded in Christ and keeping our thoughts fixed on our Savior, Jesus Christ. See (Romans 12:1-2 KJV) — I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Likewise, if we want to live right with Christ, we should not become close friends with people who will lead us in the wrong direction, because we can be influenced to live badly.

See (1 Corinthians 15:33 KJV) — Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Because many of us who are reading this are striving hard to live right with Christ, we understand the constant challenge of evil influences around us to fit into society and go with the flow. We must remember that whether we are at work, school, or some kind of social gathering, it is our Christian responsibility to shine bright in Christ among people. We need to live right, not blend in with the crowd.

In this way, people will see God’s goodness in our actions and praise our Father in Heaven. See (Matthew 5:16 KJV) — Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Rev’s Note

Yes, it is hard for every Christian to maintain a good life if they keep hanging around bad influences. Therefore, the best way to live right is to listen to God and stay away from evil people.

Morning Prayer

O Lord, please help us remain focused and keep our thoughts pure as we walk with You. Let Your light shine brightly through our actions so others will see and praise God. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
