The Glowing Man
God's Morning Word — July 31, 2026
Roy was seven years young when his father, Roy, took him and nine-year-old Troy, on their first overnight camping trip.
After setting up camp, Dad wanted a short nap before fishing. Roy was anxious to go, but agreed to rest. Troy fell asleep. Roy could not.
He decided to catch fish before Dad woke, so he grabbed his pole and tackle box and walked to the river. The water was rough, so he walked upriver. Then he saw a baby doe and thought Dad could cook it for dinner instead. He laid down his fishing gear and ran after it.
The doe disappeared into the woods. Roy't found a cave and thought it had gone inside. He followed without thinking. The cave had many tunnels, and before long Roy't was lost in darkness, cold and afraid.
Two hours later, Roy woke and found Royt’s tent empty. He checked Troy’s tent, then noticed Royt’s fishing pole was gone. After hours of searching, darkness came.
“Oh God,” Roy cried, “please help me find my boy.”
He told Troy to stay at camp and call if Royt returned, then continued searching.
Meanwhile, Roy't was crying for his daddy when he remembered what his Sunday Bible school teacher taught him: Jesus hears us when we pray
.(1 John 5:14) 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us:
Roy't prayed for Jesus to help him find his father.
A few minutes later, he heard a voice say, “Follow me, boy. I’ll lead you to your father.”
Roy't looked up and saw a man wearing a long robe that appeared to glow, lighting the tunnel. He followed the glowing man through the twisting tunnels until they reached the woods.
Roy't asked, “Who are You, and how did You find me?”
The man smiled and said, "You called in faith, son. Come, follow me." His voice was gentle, and peace filled Royt's heart as he followed the glowing man through the twisting tunnels until they reached the woods.
Just then, Royt heard his father calling. He ran toward the voice, then stopped to thank Jesus—but the glowing man had vanished.
“Here I am, Daddy!” Royt yelled.
Roy thanked Jesus, hugged his son, and asked where he had been. Royt told him about the cave, his prayer, and the glowing man who led him out.
Back at camp, Roy told his son never to run off alone again.
Royt answered, “I won’t, Daddy. But don’t worry, because Jesus is just a call away.”(Matthew 7:7) 7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Rev’s Note
It is a good feeling to know that Jesus is always ready to hear our calls, and He will be for the rest of our lives.
Let us pray together
Lord, with our whole hearts we are thankful for the confidence we have in You. Wherever we are or whatever circumstances we face, all we need to do is call out to You, knowing in faith You will come to us. In Your name, Jesus Christ, we thank You. Amen.
