I mean have those people simply considered not throwing their trash in the river? Here it's a huge offense
Sadly it's extremely common in parts of the world. For example, Over 3,000 million liters a day of untreated sewage is dumped into The Ganga river in India. And that's just one of dozens of overly polluted rivers in the world.
The technology in this article is a great step in the right direction, but it's governments and people that need to be the solution to this ever growing problem.

It’s so bad in Ny, people just leave all their trash in the parks and on the beach etc., expecting others to clean it up for them.
Bro, if I was in charge, automatic community service, I might be controversial for this, but these people will be doing free labour, idk, don't trash, money is scarce I'm not paying to fix this.
Europe. Of course there's shitheads everywhere but somehow we are managing to not have rivers full of trash here. Is the argument here really that we can't expect people not to throw trash in the river? 🤭 That's bleak man.
Ohh I'm not arguing for them haha, I just meant it's really bad over here. People don't really respect nature as much since the US has a "me" culture.
I’m 30-40 minutes east of Toronto in Oshawa. I live in what used to be considered “the country” when I rented this space about 10 years ago, now we’re literally 2-3 minute drive from Costco and any other store you could ever want. But our road still has ditches for all the passersby to throw their coffee cups and other fast food trash. There are pigs everywhere.
Not sure who you mean by “those people” but if I had to guess, I’d say no.
Which, of course, is the bigger problem. If you look at some of the Great Bubble Barrier videos, and see the huge amounts of trash they’re collecting — well that means there are a huge number of people that just don’t care.
Laws are great, and they should be there, but they’re hard to enforce. The reality is, people just need to wake up already. This does matter.
I mean the people in whose countries are the most polluted rivers. I'm not saying this doesn't matter, it's definitely a great invention. I would want people to have some accountability not just have others clean up their mess tho. Because by doing so we are still just enabling their toxic behaviour. So your argument is that expecting people to not throw trash in the river is just setting the bar too high? Or to abide laws that prohibit doing so?
That's not my argument, that's just what I see is happening...granted, in some countries more than others — not that it matters, what you do to the planet in one country affects us all. I agree with your assessment in another comment, "That's bleak man."
Here in the UK you'll get fined but it's barely enforced unless it's the town centres.
Go to canals, you have trash in the water, trash in the bushes, trash literally a few meters from a bin.
I remember seeing an electric scooter in the water, someones underwear and etc, like does no one care?
Omg, like in some parts of the UK, people trash their own neighbourhood, and they literally have trash collection that's free.
