Help a Writer Out

I am about 35K words into a novel and have become jammed up. I am suffering a serious bout of "ugh, I just don't feel like writing." What do you guys do to get through this stuff?

For me, there is usually a reason I get to that point...not necessarily writing, but any creative endeavor. If I can identify the reason, I can usually work it out. Normally, I just get bored 😅

My solution is to skip around until I get excited again about what I'm doing. When I'm building/fabricating, there is always something else that can be worked on. When I was in creative writing, I'd skip to write the end of the story or start writing a story about a character in the story, and more times then not it gets spliced into what I was working on. Currently trying my hand at scripting YT videos. I'll get stuck or bored, so I'll just skip around and piece-meal it until I can combine it all. Just some thoughts!

Or are you just tired of the actual act of writing your story? maybe a break is in order :)

I am also thinking about scripting some YT videos. My oldest child is finishing a Masters in Film directing at UCLA and I hope they will help me out.

Hey, that’s good stuff! I think I just got bored. Now your idea about writing a story about one of the characters has me excited to get to that! Thanks!

Exercise or take a long walk. Clean up my workspace and desktops (digital and real). Meet with a friend and don’t discuss the project I’m stuck on, talk about other things.

Then return to it a day or two later.

Those are all cathartic.

True.
I find that my creative block almost always stems from another part of my life/self not being taken care of adequately.

It’s balance, isn’t it?

Kudos to you. 35K words is one heck of a milestone. When I relate some of my life story to people I invariably get, "you should write a book". Well that is a whole lot easier said than done. Good luck getting past this present challenge. This is me sending good vibes out to the universe, hoping it helps.

Thanks, man. If people are telling you that you should write about your life, you probably should. f you don't like to type, you can use some type of speech-to-text program.

I'd always figured that it seemed to me that no one, or few, wanted to hear about it...so who'd want to read a book about it — especially these days. But maybe I got it wrong, maybe I should be writing it for me, and who cares if no one else reads it.
Actually, I already have the title. My name was changed when I was adopted at six. My birth name was Duane, but I can't get agreement on whether it was spelled that way, or Dwayne.
So I'd have to call it "A Book About Duane and His Other Brother Dwayne" LOL

Excellent. My pastor’s name is DeWayne. Just to stir it up a bit! 🤪
