The End of the DSLR?

Pentax recently discontinued it's only - and probably THE only newer DSLR in production, as it ends it's K-series cameras. Nikon and Canon still sell a few models, but they've been out for years and no new models have been created, favoring mirrorless as the heir apparent to lead camera sales.

What is next for Pentax and the camera world in general? I imagine mirrorless will dominate for some time, but technology is moving very quickly in this industry. It will be interesting to see what... "develops".

My first 'real' camera was the Pentax K1000, and that worked for me until I purchased what would be my last film camera, a Pentax MZ-5. Don't recall why, but I've stuck with Canon ever since I went digital. I think it was likely because, as my publishing efforts turned digital, I worked exclusively on a Mac, and in those early days, Canon was one of the few that came out with native software for Apple products.

Not really sure of benefits of DSLR. Maybe battery life since the sensor doesn't have to always be ON all the time? However, mirrorless cameras weigh less and take up less space which is really great for travel. You also already see the actual image that is seen by the sensor with the viewfinder.
