Eastern Kingbird

The Eastern Kingbird! Why is it called a Kingbird you ask? Because under that black cap is a red or yellow crown that it shows only when threatened or attacking. They're also champs at catching insects. What's your favorite bird?

Wow that’s even cooler than expected

Are they related to Bluejays?

Not really. The Eastern Kingfisher is categorized as a Tyrant flycatcher, whereas bluejays are part of the Corvid family - that's right - bluejays are a kind of crow!. :)

I did not know blue jays are Corvids. I love Corvids, as you can probably tell. But now that I think about it, they are very mouthy! Thanks for the education.

Wow, the Eastern Kingbird has such an elegance about it. This actually might be my favorite bird now (ignoring the fact I can probably name all the birds I know on one hand lol).

What did you take this with?

Beauty isn't he? This was taken with a Nikon D610 using a Tamron 150-600mm lens.

Yes he is! I have a slight fear of birds but this one is just 👨‍🍳
