100% manual! I’m teaching my kids to drive a stick too, can’t let the old ways wither!
That's cool, in the UK, if you want to drive a manual, you have to have a manual license, this makes most people get the Manual license so they don't have to pay for an instructor and driving test again.
Oh wow, I didn’t know that - I’ve visited as a tourist and rented a car, and they just asked “is a manual ok?”
Nice of them to cut us visitors a break, I guess. I hope I maintained a high standard and they my fellow drivers aren’t like “ugh, another tourist”.
That said, I think it would be cool in the USA to have more steps the driver licensing process; to fly airplanes, you get your license, then you have to get your “flying in clouds and weather” license, your “flying planes with more than one engine” license, etc. I could see licensing for road vehicles have a couple steps between “two-seater” and “giant road-hogging truck” 😁
Oh Ok, also another fun fact, as some pickup trucks in America can weigh above 3500kg, in the UK you need a catergory C1, that allows tyou to drive anything between 3500-7500kg.
Yeah it’s madness here… there SHOULD be a different rating for giant ridiculous vehicles like that; in aviation, when you want to learn to fly a different type of plane, you get “type-rated” by receiving some dual-time with an instructor familiar with the plane, and you need to get a sign-off that you can handle it.
I fear the old days of driving proper manual are fading alarmingly with the sheer amount of automatics that are being sold nowadays. Great respect to you for teaching your kids on a stick shift I did the same.
Thanks! Not only is it more fun (IMHO) but a lot of the world still uses manuals as the default, so if they ever want to travel, they’d better at least have the basics down!
